Welcome to Soulchiatry!
I’m Dr. Angelica Almazan.
For as long as I can remember, I knew I was meant to serve others in a helping profession.
The road to becoming a doctor was not always with pure intentions. At first, I was motivated largely by my ego and a conditioned belief that my worth is measured by fancy degrees, titles, or financial abundance.
Halfway into my psychiatry residency training, a tragedy shattered my idealized view of “how to do life”. I went through my own mental health crisis, not unlike many of the patients I had cared for in my training.
This means I’ve done the work for myself, just like every client I support. It also means you’ll never feel judgment from me.
I embrace the wildness in all of us, and I recognized that we’re all just beautifully intricate beings living a human experience.
Separation and division is an illusion created by the world we live in, not the reality of our human existence.
Last, but not least, I believe that all of our experiences, no matter how painful, are intended to teach us with love.
My chosen path has led me to become an expert in my own right, and my patients are my greatest teachers.
My holistic model is unique and unfortunately not taught in the standard curriculum for mental health clinicians, and I want to share it with those who are dedicated to a lifelong journey of expansion.
I may know a lot about the human body and behavior, but I don’t know everything there is to know in how to create a meaningful life.
I am grateful to those who invite me to deeply witness their inherent value, who inspire me to challenge the rigid ideologies in today’s mental health, and who motivate me to consume endless literature on the human condition.
My Education & Experience:
I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2013 and my medical degree at Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2019.
I completed psychiatry residency training at Woodmont Community Hospital in Tamarac, Florida and spent my final year at residency serving as Chief Resident, while starting my private practice in Boca Raton, Florida.
In addition to my practice, I’m a consultant for emergency room and hospital settings, with extensive experience in civil commitment, medical decision making capacity, and medical-psychiatric management.
Last, but not least, I am Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Beyond the important qualifications that help me care for you, I make mental health fun! I am forever a child at heart, encouraging you to bring out the child in yourself.
I love being in front of the camera. I’m a performer and was a singer all through high school through college and medical school.
I also like making people laugh. Social media has been a nice marriage of my passions to perform, educate, create, motivate and inspire. My co-stars are Ajax and Oakley, my sweet golden retriever boys.
